Booker T. Washington. Poster, with a bust portrait of a youthful Booker T. Washington, 28 x 21 inches; in blue pencil across the bottom of the poster, "Will speak at Colored Grade School auditorium Nov. 1, 1910 at 8 O'Clock P.M." Accompanied by two tickets for the speech advertised, one ticket for a Reserved Seat and the other ticket for General Admission. Wilson, North Carolina, 1910 During the year 1910 Washington lectured throuhout the South, urging Negroes to learn trades and to remain in the South rather than moving northward. During that same year, the North Carolina Business League asked Washington to speak (which gave birth to this poster and tickets.) Washington's host was Samuel Vick, postmaster and activist in Reconstruction politics. See lot 517 for material concerning Samuel H. Vick.
