(WASHINGTON, D.C.) Hill, Samuel. Plan of the City of Washington.

THE SECOND PRINTED PLAN OF WASHINGTON D.C. (WASHINGTON, D.C.) Hill, Samuel. Plan of the City of Washington. Engraved folding plan of Washington, D.C. 225x280 mm, ample margins; some expert paper reinstatement along bottom edge, away from image. [Boston: I. Thomas & E. T. Andrews, May] 1792

  • Notes: This map was published in The Massachusetts Magazine, a very important and scarce American literary periodical that was primarily illustrated by Samuel Hill (as here). Bound sets of the work almost never appear at auction; the last we can find went for sale in 1973. The map follows directly from the Thackara & Vallance publication of March 1792. Baynton-Williams 2; Jolly 437; Phillips, Washington D.C., PW 13; Tooley, Federal City, 2.
