  • Notes: Andrew Parks (1773-1836) of Kanawha Salines, WV married Harriet Washington (1776-1822), the niece of George Washington. The president had helped raise Harriet after her father Samuel Washington died young, and Parks personally requested her hand in marriage from the President in 1796. Parks apparently served as executor for the estate of his brother-in-law Lawrence Augustus Washington (1774-1824), the president's nephew. This lot includes:

    Receipt to Andrew Parks Sr. from Mary Dorcas Washington (1817-1861) for money from her father's estate, 1 June 1832

    Two letters to Andrew Parks Sr. from Lawrence's son Robert Wood Washington (1808-1843). Mentions relatives including Cousin Bushrod, Emma, and Lawrence, and urgently requests payment of estate funds due. Highlands (Wheeling), WV, 11 June 1834 and 12 February 1835

    With--Letter from Andrew Parks Jr. (1811-1863) to attorney John J. Brasee of Lancaster, OH. Discusses a lawsuit regarding bank stock.  Kanawha Court House, WV, 20 April 1844.
