Nicely framed. NOT EXAMINED OUT OF FRAME. Mount Vernon, 9 September 1785 E12,000/18,000 "I received a letter yesterday from Governor Johnson and Lee which I wish to lay before you and Colo. Fitzpatrick. I shall set off in a few minutes for Alexandria, where I should be glad to meet you as soon as it is convenient, as it is my present intention to return home by dinner." The following day, Washington wrote a letter to Thomas Johnson and Thomas Lee explaining the reason for the above meeting: a proposal regarding the purchase of servants and the possibility of hiring Negroes by the year.
