(WASHINGTON MONUMENT.) Tinted lithographed donor's certificate,

(WASHINGTON MONUMENT.) Tinted lithographed donor's certificate, with a large lithographed vignette of the proposed monument; accomplished for A. Goodman for his donation of $5 towards the erection of the monument, 11 3/4x9 1/2 inches; removable soiling, few short repairable tears. Baltimore: Hoen, late 1840s-early 1850s

  • Notes: Hoen issued a separate print of the proposed monument in 1846. The image on this certificate is also of the proposed monument and should be dated to around 1846 when the obelisk would be capped at 100 feet. When the monument was finally finished, after many delays and the Civil War it reached 555 feet and bore only the vaguest resemblance to the monument pictured on this certificate.
