WEEGEE [ARTHUR FELLIG] (1899-1968) Marilyn Monroe riding an elephant. 1955.

WEEGEE [ARTHUR FELLIG] (1899-1968)
Marilyn Monroe riding an elephant. 1955.
Silver ferrotyped print, the image measuring 7¾x9 5/8 inches (19.7x24.4 cm.), the sheet slightly larger, with Weegee's "Credit Photo by Weegee" and "Photo-Representatives" stamps on verso.

Marilyn Monroe rode a pink-painted elephant while wearing expensive jewels on the opening night of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus at Madison Square Garden, New York.

  • Condition: Weegee's vintage photograph of Marilyn Monroe riding an elephant, 1955, is in nearly excellent condition. The print is rich and lustrous, with densely packed detail and tonal variety.

The print is ferrotyped, and evidences some of the very faint surface inconsistencies associated with that process. These slight inconsistencies are visible when viewing the print under strongly-lit viewing conditions, but not under typical conditions.

The narrow margins are clean (the tip of the lower left corner evidences a chip of loss, but this is not impacting the image area). The verso is clean, with Weegee's "Credit Photo by Weegee" and "Photo-Representatives" stamps on verso.
