The closeness of the Glenway Wescott-Barbara Harrison relationship has been well-documented. A British and French citizen and also an heiress, Harrison married Wescott''s older brother Lloyd in 1935 and soon after, with Monroe Wheeler, opened up the publishing house Harrison of Paris. Both Fear and Trembling and Apartment in Athens were dedicated to Harrison. According to British literary critic John Connolly, They (Harrison and Lloyd Wescott) were handsome together, but Glenway was her substitute husband, he was her entertainment, he was her life . . ."
