Provenance: acquired directly from the artist; private collection, New York.

In 1986, Lovell won a New York Foundation for the Arts grant, and was included in the exhibition Self-Portrait at Kenkeleba Gallery, New York. He continued to show the large scale drawings in charcoal and oil stick that he begun at his Skowhegan residency the year before.
