Autograph Letter Signed, to noted actor Joseph Jefferson, asking for a box at a Friday night performance of Rip Van Winkle, and further hoping that they might speak about the paintings of Corot once again. 2 pages, small 4to; minor separation at fold. Nicely framed. [New York], nd E2,500/3,500 "I am very anxious to see your Rip Van Winkle again. If there is a box vacant on Friday might Ihave the privilege of using it. I hope to see you again & to talk of Corot." Jefferson had Boucicault adapt the Irving story for the stageduring a visit to London in 1865. The play was first presented at London's Adelphi Theatre in September 1865. A triumphant Jefferson returned to his home in America and gave his first American Rip Van Winkle performance in September 1866 at New York City's Olympic Theatre. It remained the greatest role in Jefferson's long act-ing career.
