A graphic designer and typographer, Sandberg's largest body of work was produced for the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, where he was the director between 1945 and 1962. During his tenure there he designed more than 300 posters for the museum as well as the catalogues and the exhibitions themselves. Having been influenced by the new typography (as espoused by Henrik Werkmann and Piet Zwart), during the war he produced "Experimenta Typographica" which would become the basis of all his graphic design to follow. These two posters demonstrate how Sandberg constantly, and clearly with great fun, carried on with his experiments in color, layout and free typography.
