WILLIAM H. BRADLEY NARCOTI-CURE. 1895.

20 1/4x14 inches.
Condition B+: minor tears at edges; slight discoloration in image; bottom margin trimmed.
Although recently relocated in Springfield, Bradley's reputation soon earned him commissions from local companies. While most of Bradley's work was for various elements of the publishing business, he also designed posters and magazine ads for commercial products, which were reflected in his earliest Massachusetts commissions. Foremost among these are Victor Bicycles [see lot 29], Columbia Bicycles, The Springfield Bicycle Club and Twin Comet Lawn Sprinklers. This poster for a drug to cure nicotine addiction features St. George defeating an allegorical Art Nouveau tobacco demon. "Bradley is undoubtedly one of the best, if not the best, of the poster artists we have in this country" (Philadelphia Ledger circa August 15, 1895). Kiehl 17, DFP I 162, Reims 1146, Koch p. 50, Margolin p. 44, Keay frontis.
