A woman in red, white and blue robes holding a sword and a golden lion, traditional symbols of American and British liberty, are standing side by side, in front of their respective country's flags. A cartoonist and poster designer by trade, Denslow entered the national consciousness in 1899 when he was hired to illustrate L. Frank Baum's Father Goose, His Book. Denslow went on to great fame as the illustrator of Baum's Oz books.
