WITH A LENGTHY INSCRIPTION BY HOUDINI (HOUDINI, HARRY.) Bennett, Arnold. Your United States. Plates. 8vo, original cloth; Inscribed and Signed by Houdini. New York, 1912
- Notes: inscribed by houdini while sailing the atlantic, "'Safe Bind Safe Find' Does not apply to the undersigned, Harry Handcuff Houdini July 14/1913 on Board N. D. L. Kronprincessin Cecelia." Accompanied by 2 ship's programs for a performance on board by Houdini, one of the programs has corrections to the text in Houdini's hand. The story which goes along with this volume is as follows: A young girl Betty was on board and asked for Houdini's signature in her book. The book was inscribed to the girl by her "Aunties" on 08 July, six days before Houdini added his inscription. It seems likely the book was a gift given the girl before her departure since the ship left New York on that date. Houdini's note was added 2 days before the ship reached Bremen. The trip turned out to be a sad one for Houdini as his mother died in New York the day after his arrival in Germany.
