WITH TWO WORKS ON ASTROLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF GEMS LEONARDUS, CAMILLUS. Speculum lapidum. Bound together as issued with: Petrus Arlensis de Scudalupis's Sympathia and Petrus Contantius Albinius's Magia Astrologia. Engraved portrait of Petrus Arlensus, engraved title, and 2 illustrations. [32], 390, 84, [36] pages. 8vo, contemporary style calf with blind border designs and morocco gilt spine label, few scuffs on rear cover; scattered browning, mostly to first third of contents. Hamburg: Christianum Liebezeit, 1717; 1716

  • Notes: first combined edition containing these three works. While Sympathia first appeared bound with the 1610 edition of Speculum lapidum, the famous work treating astrological themes, this is the first time Albinius's work appears with them. Sympathia discusses the connections and influences between the seven planets on the seven gems and the seven metals. Magia Astrologica, according to Thorndyke in his History of Magic, was published for the greater elucidation of Sympathia in that it discusses the proper materials for rings based upon their Zodiacal correlations. Sinkankas 60; 3895; and 5108.
