WITH-- Wolf von dem Bussche. Photographs: 1967-1977. Oblong 4to, photo-pictorial wrappers. (San Francisco): (Stephen Witz Gallery), (1980.)

  • Condition: Von Dem Bussche's suite of 12 photographs depicting the World Trade Center and Washington Square Park is overall in very good condition. The prints are rich and contrasty, with deep blacks, and bright highlights.

In strong raking light, however, the prints evidence minor handling issues, mostly in the form of small soft creases and confined to the edges as detailed below. Obscured by the graphic qualities of the compositions, these slight inconsistencies are mostly unobtrusive and not visible in typical viewing condition.

Print 1: two soft handling marks in the lower quadrant (in the shadow area)
Print 2; A couple of exceedingly soft handling marks on the left and right extreme edges of the image area
Print 3: two very soft short handling marks on the lower left quadrant of the image area.
Print 4; a soft handling spec on the upper right quadrant (background) of the image area
Print 5; a soft handling spec on the upper right quadrant (background) of the image area
Print 6: soft half-moon crease on the middle upper edge. A couple exceedingly faint ones in the left quadrant close to the edge
Print 7; scattered exceedingly faint half-moon marks in the far left quadrant
Print 8: soft and short handling crease in the lower left quadrant (bottom of the tower) and one in the middle far right quadrant
Print 12: soft and short handling crease in the lower left tower and 3 soft handling marks in the right quadrant

The striking images are masterfully printed on crisp white sheets. The margins are bright and clean, but also evidence scattered small handling marks. The versos are bright and clean, each with von dem Bussche's signature, title, date, and edition notation 6/35 in pencil, on verso.

The cover of the publication is lightly soiled but otherwise in good condition with no other flaw.

A fine suite of large prints depicting the iconic towers.
