Woman's Suffrage: Four Pieces of Ephemera Pro and Con.

1915 broadside promoting a yes vote on the Suffrage amendment in New Jersey, scheduled for the October 19, 1915 ballot; "These New Jersey Officials and Prominent Citizens are for Woman Suffrage. Are You?"; the list topped by Thomas Edison, also includes many state and federal politicians present and past, including governors, senators, assemblymen, librarians, the founder of Asbury Park, editors of local newspapers, and other prominent citizens; Printed by the New Jersey Woman Suffrage Association of Plainfield New Jersey; single sheet of wove paper, printed on  one side; stain to lower right corner; 10 3/4 x 7 1/4 in.

[And] Three printed cards: "I AM OPPOSED TO WOMAN'S SUFFRAGE"; [New Hampshire, circa 1913]; some examples have a Printer's Union logo bottom center, these three do not; each filled out by a person who describes themselves as such, two of which are women; two of the three with only street addresses, the third from Manchester, New Hampshire; each 3 x 5 in.

New Jersey's Woman's Suffrage amendment was defeated in the vote held on October 19, 1915. The state legislature finally ratified the voting rights amendment on February 2, 1920.

The anti-suffrage cards were printed and distributed by the New Hampshire Association Opposed to the Further Extension of Suffrage to Women in order to keep in touch with their supporters. New Hampshire was able to extend suffrage to women on September 10, 1919.
