(WORLD WAR II-JAPANESE.) Yamashita, Tomoyuki. Philippine one-peso banknote, "Victory" issue, boldly Signed in Japanese and English, on the "Victory" side. Also bears the much smaller signatures of two of his aides. 2.5 x 6.25 inches; folds. Np, [1945] E800/1,200 Yamashita,the "Tiger of Malaya," led the Japanese forces that captured Singapore in 1942. That same year he took over command in the Philippines and led the campaigns which captured the Bataan Peninsula and Corregidor. Surrendered to the Allies, was tried for war crimes, and executed. The note was signed for an American nurse who was responsible for him during his captivity.
