(WORLD WAR II)
The U.S.S. Destroyer Shaw during the attack on Pearl Harbor. December 7, 1941; printed February 26, 1942.
Silver press print, the image measuring 6 3/8x8½ inches (16.2x21.6 cm.), the sheet slightly larger, with a Wide World Photos stamp and typed caption label with the print date on verso.

  • Condition: This striking press print depicting the U.S.S. Destroyer during the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941 (and printed before February 26, 1942) is in very good to excellent condition. The print is contrasty, and rendered with dimensional clarity.

The surface is overall exceptionally clean and neat, and largely without appearance of handling, unusual for the format. The surface is ferrotyped and in raking light it is possible to see the slight inconsistencies associated with that process. But, these are not at all distracting or visible under normal conditions.

The narrow margins are overall clean, with just slight warming at the far left edge and very light rippling at the lower (related to the label). Print verso is also very clean and neat, with a Wide World Photos stamp and a typed caption label (with the date). This sheet is splitting along the (original) fold.

    An important image.
