Worm, Ole (1588-1654)
Fasti Danici. Universam Tempora Computandi Rationem Antiquitus in Dania et Vicinis Regionibus Observatam.

Copenhagen: Joachim Moltkenium, 1643.

Third edition, small folio, engraved title page, illutstrated with engraved portrait of Worm, 6 engravings and 12 woodcuts (some printed in red); (disbound; headlines trimmed with slight loss, a little minor dampstaining); 9 5/8 x 6 3/4 in.

Worm studied the runes of ancient Scandinavian culture and collected and preserved relevant antiquarian artifacts. In the case of the Computus Runicus, a manuscript on parchment from 1328, transcribed and illustrated here, it's fortunate that he did so. The original was destroyed in a sweeping fire that enveloped much of Copenhagen in 1728.

Ex libris Professor, Astronomer, Historian & Bibliophile Owen Gingerich.
