WORTH AS MUCH AS A BAY PSALM BOOK? (EARLY AMERICAN IMPRINT.) Mather, Cotton. Coelestinus. A Conversation in Heaven, Quickened and Assisted, with Discoveries of Things in the Heavenly World. [1], viii, 27, ii, 162 pages; lacks only the half-title. 12mo, modern cloth; toning and light dampstaining, K4-L5 burned along fore-edge with some loss. Boston: S. Kneeland, 1723
- Notes: A very scarce Mather title, consisting of a series of essays on the same theme. A copy at the Boston Public Library indicates that the Prince Library traded a Bay Psalm Book for it in 1860! No copy of Coelestinus appeared in the famed sale of the Mather collection of Francis W. Fabyan (American Art Association, 17 February 1920). The last copy to appear at auction was in 24 February 1921 with Charles F. Heartman. Holmes locates 16 institutional copies. Evans 2450; Holmes, Increase Mather 61; Holmes, Cotton Mather 8.
