  • Notes: Third edition of a work originally published in 1713. "The book was one of the earliest practical manuals on fencing and wrestling, and stemmed from Parkyns's noting down every lesson that his instructor, Mr Cornish, had given him at Gray's Inn . . . the most notable aspect of his work was the way in which he fused very practical advice with ponderous scientific terminology" (ODNB).
