Postcard to founder of Le Monde poétique, Léon Roger-Milès, in French, thanking for his review, and requesting the return of any matter concerning Getting Married (1884). Roth. to "Dear Mrs. Posia," in German, sending New Year's greetings, informing her that he is writing to Mr. Reece, and explaining that he is not angry about the recent encounter with him. Ruskin. "JRuskin," to journalist S[amuel] C[arter] Hall, declining to commit to his proposal. Each 1 page, oblong 12mo or 4to or 8vo; generally good condition. Except for yours and Voltaire's . . . , nothing else appeared in Paris as far as I know. Being away, I . . . must rely on your kindness to keep me up-to-date. . . ."

In 1884, Strindberg's first collection of short stories was published in Sweden (Giftas [Getting Married] ). The book contained a preface in which Strindberg voiced support for women's rights. Soon after, Strindberg was prosecuted for "blasphemy against God or mockery of God's word or sacrament"--a charge of which he was later acquitted.
