Wrought Iron Wrist Shackles. Three large links extend to 9 inches; with a large, round "bracelet," and a half-bracelet to which another half-bracelet fits over and locks. The 5-inch tubular lock has a V-shaped spring fitted to keep the device locked; it was opened by using heavy pliers to squeeze the "V" together, releasing the lock. Somewhat rubbed; with "RC" (owner's initials?). North Carolina, circa 1830s E1, 500/2,500 [SEE ILLUSTRATION]
