    Led by the evocative Powerhouse Mechanic, circa 1921, a collection of 24 famous works by Lewis W. Hine set the stage for this dynamic sale, with images of immigrants at Ellis Island, a child toiling in a cotton mill, a group of “newsies” and various Empire State Building views. 


    Haunting portraits by twentieth-century masters included Diane Arbus’s Young Waitress at a Nudist Camp, New Jersey, 1963, printed by Neil Selkirk. Also available were works by Nick Brandt, Michael Dweck, Horst P. Horst, Sally Mann, Herb Ritts, Cindy Sherman, Robert Silvers and Bert Stern.




    Lot 20: Robert B. Talfor, Photographic Views of Red River Raft, album of 113 hand-colored photographs, 1873.

    Sold for $93,250.




    Nineteenth-century color works include R. B. Talfor’s album entitled Photographic Views of the Red River Raft, 1873, with 110 stunning vistas of Louisiana, and an album of early photographs of Brazilian women at work, with 19 salted paper prints, 1861-62.
