Jonathan Green

1955

Artist Jonathan Green is a Southern painter of abstract human figures engaged in everyday life. He is part of the Gullah culture along the South Carolina coast, and his art reflects his roots. He is also a printmaker who produces faithful lithographs of his works. Jonathan Green prints are highly prized by collectors for their autobiographical, documentary depiction of Gullah life.

Jonathan Green paintings of baptisms, harvest work, and celebrations consist of bold, colorful oils on canvas, even more amplified than the actual vibrancy of the people and land themselves. His subjects take on a cubist delineation, part Picasso, and part Rivera, and are the centerpieces of his works.

Artist Jonathan Green’s artwork hangs in prestigious museums, including the Naples Museum of Art in Florida and the Afro-American Museum of Philadelphia. Other vibrant figural paintings for sale are on offer online at Invaluable.
