Shanell Kitt joined the African American Art department at Swann Galleries as an administrator in January 2022, after completing a museum professional’s seminar and curatorial affairs internship at The Studio Museum in Harlem. As an administrator, Shanell works closely with the department’s director and cataloguer, assisting with consignments, catalogue production, inventory management, art handling, exhibition planning and auctions.  

With a background in visual art and social work, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York – Buffalo State College in 2012, a Master of Social Work degree from Howard University in 2016, becoming licensed in 2018, as well as a Master of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art - Painting, also from Howard University, in 2020. Additional related experiences include a Library and Archives internship at The Phillips Collection, a Gallery internship at the Howard University Gallery of Art, an Art Cart: Saving the Legacy fellowship and the Black Arts Movement School Modality – Chicago.

Shanell’s interests include painting, studying art history, teaching, writing, and volunteering. She gains inspiration from vernacular culture, and art movements such as the Harlem Renaissance and AfriCOBRA.
