. . . I entirely share your wishes that a satisfactory arrangement betwixt Greece & the Porte
[Ottoman government] may be arrived at regarding the rectification of the frontier.
“
It is a matter fraught with some considerable difficulty, but I should strongly advise Greece to
accept cordially what is offered to her by the Porte & not to ask for more. In time she may
receive an augmentation of territory, but the motto ‘thank & be thankful’ is one that should not
be forgotten. . . .”
