46

EDWARDVII; KING OF ENGLAND. Autograph Letter Signed, “AlbertEdward,”

as Prince, to C.Tuckerman (“Dear Mr.Tuckerman”), thanking for sending a copy of a let-

ter from the King of Greece addressed to Tuckerman and stating that he would advise

Greece to accept the offer of the Ottomans concerning their dispute over the frontier. 4

pages, 8vo, written on a single folded sheet, mourning stationery; remnants of prior mount-

ing at upper edge of second page. With the original envelope.

[London], 3 April 1879

[400/600]

. . . I entirely share your wishes that a satisfactory arrangement betwixt Greece & the Porte

[Ottoman government] may be arrived at regarding the rectification of the frontier.

It is a matter fraught with some considerable difficulty, but I should strongly advise Greece to

accept cordially what is offered to her by the Porte & not to ask for more. In time she may

receive an augmentation of territory, but the motto ‘thank & be thankful’ is one that should not

be forgotten. . . .”
