the fact that his soldier is an idealized, youthful version of himself.Also dated December, 1944.With

a photostatic copy of a signed document from the South Carolina House of Representatives

congratulating Sargeant Norman H. Gaillard ofWilliamstown for being depicted byWhitman in the

American Red CrossWar Fund Poster series. Stating that Gaillard appears,“young, gay, and idealistic,

but the lines of his face are hard and lean. He has the stamina that can take it or dish it out.”

congratulating and thanking Szyk for his beautiful and well-received design. September, 1950. 1

page, 8vo, on State of Israel letterhead. In his letter he mentions gifting to Szyk two First Day Covers

signed by himself and the Minister of Israel which are also included in this lot, matted and framed.
