page, 4to, with integral address leaf; loss to lower half of letter leaf, moderate

scattered foxing. (MRS)

Ravenna, 18 January 1821

[100/200]

In the space of 14 days the noble Lord Byron my employer has received only two issues of

your periodical folio the Gallignani. [You] will want, then, to have the satisfaction of regulariz-

ing the sending of such gazette so that he doesn’t miss any issue, as is usual, and with the

[expectation] to see removed any similar inconvenience . . . .”

LADY BYRON

BYRON, ANNE ISABELLA MILBANKE; LADY. Autograph Letter Signed, “AI.

NoelByron,” to “Dear Sir,” declining the offer of services because of insufficient experi-

ence. 2 pages, 8vo, written on the recto and verso of a single sheet; ink identification in

unknown hand at upper edge of first page, folds. Brighton, 9 November 1848

[200/300]

I . . . did not trouble you with an answer only because I understood that you would conclude .

. . that I still felt the same objections to

inexperience

. My present arrangement is only a tem-

porary one with a Gentleman of high character but who is not likely to continue above 2 or 3

months in that situation. I should therefore wish to keep the Address of Mr. Scrattons[?] for

future use . . . .”
