The Bragg
fruit of Palmetto Tree-son * Dixie * Jewels found at Alexandria * Jeff Davis His
Marque * The Lock and Key * Behold the Man: Group of six covers with vio-
lent themes: lynching, etc..
All covers are unused, standard size and have their original
flaps; only the last one has any glue marks from mounting on the reverse.
Vp, 1861-1865
[500/700]
Includes a rare example of a yellow, “Dixie” cover, showing an enormous snake (Secession)
wrapping itself around a nude woman, clearly meant to be the South. Other covers show a
group of shackles, General Bragg hanging from a palmetto tree, another man being hung from
the tree of Liberty, etc. All quite striking and in keeping with the more aggressive style of cover
that came later in the war.
