CHURCHILL, WINSTON S. Archive of items relating to his membership in a
British trade union, including 5 items Signed: 3 Typed Letters, a partly-printed Document
(twice), and a Check. The letters, to Alderman James F. Lane, Divisional Secretary of the
Amalgamated Union of Building Trade Workers (AMUBTW), first declining an invitation
to join the union as a bricklayer, later asking for more information, and finally accepting
membership by sending a check for the fee [present].Together 3 pages, each 4to, personal
stationery; faint foxing at edges, pin holes at upper left corner, folds.The document, admis-
sion form to the AMUBTW, two identical portions separated by a vertical perforation with
each portion signed by him and additionally signed by Lane, accomplished in red ink in an
unknown hand. 2 pages, 8vo, written on first and terminal pages; faint scattered foxing.The
check, to the AMUBTW in the amount of 5 shillings drawing on Lloyds Bank, uncan-
