Though originally from Port Arthur,Texas, Montgomery was known as a Chicago artist, studying at
the Art Institute of Chicago. He exhibited regularly there and as a member of the All-Illinois Society
of the Fine Arts throughout the 1930s and `40s. He was best known as an illustrator of babies and
young children for the Carnation Milk Company for which this image was most likely used. He also
executed illustrations for Good Housekeeping, Ladies’ Home Journal, andWoman’s Home Companion.
