The National Society of the Beaux-Arts is going to hold an exhibition of the works of

Eugène Delacroix, one of its founders.

. . . [W]e ask you if you would be willing to entrust to us the canvasses of the Master which

you have the good fortune to own. . . .

We have no doubt that you will wish to be of help to us in putting together a nation-wide col-

lection in honor of one of France’s greatest artists . . . .

The Members of the Commission: Count Walewski, Honorary President, Marquis Maisons,

Robert Fleury,Théophile Gautier, . . .The Founding Director, Louis Martinet.”
