the German occupation of Le Touquet with German soldiers prowling under my window and rather
interrupting the flow of inspiration . . . .

There is talk of doing a Jeeves series on the radio here, with Eric Blore as Jeeves. I get $1000 a week
for thirty-nine weeks if it comes off. IF it comes off! I’m not a bit excited, as these radio things always
fall through. I wish I had a fiver for every time I’ve been told that I am on the eve of making a fortune
on the radio. . . .”
27 September 1951: “. . . I am so glad you like Ukridge. He has always been one of my favorite
