tains two loosely inserted Autograph Letters

Signed by Adams relating to the inscription, in

one referring to his preference for a later title of

his (Shardik) and compares Hardy’s The

Woodlanders unfavorably to The Mayor of

Casterbridge. A copy of Nicholas Tucker’s

review of the book extracted from the New

Statesman is included in the lot.
