ADAMS, JOHN QUINCY. Letter Signed, as Secretary of State, to Secretary of the Navy Smith Thompson, sending him a copy of a pardon for Thomas Bryant, ordering his release and requesting that, pursuant to the pardon, he be provided with passage on a U.S. ship to a port abroad. 1/2 page, folded 4to sheet with integral blank; holes punched in the far left margin. - Notes: "I have the honor to enclose herewith a pardon for Thomas Bryant, according to the request contained in your letter of the 6th instant, and pursuant to the special directions of the President. In furnishing this Document, I am instructed by the President to intimate his wish, that you would give directions, in any order you may issue for the release of Bryant, that an opportunity may be afforded him, on the departure of a public vessel of the United States, of leaving the Country, in conformity with the Condition of his pardon; with instructions to the commander to land him at some convenient port abroad..."
