The key to Mucha's success was his exceptional talent as a draughtsman and his meticulous creative process. This involved many preparatory drawings sketched directly from a model, or from photographs (which he was one of the first to use in this manner). We were unable to determine what this drawing was ultimately used for, it appears never to have been a poster, but was likely used for an illustration, or even a painting. Yet it is still replete with Mucha's sharp line, the graceful hair, head and hands and the virtuosity in the treatment of the dress. It is also hard to date, as Mucha's precise and concise drawing style didn't change much over the years.
