(AMERICAN REVOLUTION--PRINTS.) Habermann, Francois Xavier. Pair of engravings headed "Vuë de Boston." Hand-colored engravings, 12 x 16 inches, moderate soiling, pinholes in upper margins, dampstaining visible on verso only. [Augsburg, Germany], circa 1776
- Notes: The Revolution sparked European curiosity about America, so Habermann produced an extensive "Collection des Prospects" of American city views, most of which are believed to be fictitious. They were intended for use in mirrored peep shows, hence the reversed headers. Cresswell American Revolution 522, 520; Fowble, Prints in America 169.
