The Canadian Pacific Ocean Services (as the steamship branch became known in 1915) not only offered transportation for immigrants moving to Canada but also offered holiday cruising. With fleets operating on both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, their ships were named and known as Empresses. By the mid-1920s the company's cruising business had grown so large that they began adding ships to the fleet. The Pacific fleet, all white, were also uniformly named "Empress of . . . ." The Empress of Japan, pictured here, had her name changed to the Empress of Scotland in 1942 when Japan entered the Second World War.
