Anton Clave 1913 L'Opinio. 1933 39 x 27 inches. I. G. Viladot, Barcelona. Condition A. Like most Catalonian artists, Clave was a strong supporter of the Spanish Republic. He was also part of a circle of poster artists that designed movie posters in a clear Art- Deco style. For this newspaper, he creates a sober and very strong image, utilizing the diagonal that is created by the placement of thestreet vendor and the newspaper that he holds in his hand. The hint of red a color that shows the political stand of the newspaper only serves to enhance the basically black and gray image. A rare classic of the Art Deco period. ref. Catalunya en 1000 Carteles by Lluis Carrilla Canals, Barcelona, 1994 - p.382, no.970
