Similar in color scheme and theme to Picasso's Guernica, painted the same year, this black-and-white photomontage of a mother and child crouching in terror underneath a sky filled with Nazi bombers asked the question, "What are you doing to prevent this?" During the three years of the Spanish Civil War, posters were the single most effective tool used by the Spanish to mobilize the populace against the modern and brutally efficient Nazi-Fascist army. Printed in Spanish, French, and English, this propaganda poster acts as a sobering reminder of how the atrocities of war often harm the most innocent. ref.
