Madrid/The "Military" practice Of The Rebels. Circa 1937 26 x 19.75 inches. Ministerio de Propaganda, Madrid. Condition B+: visible horizontal and vertical folds. Paper. some images are so strong that they come to symbolize a period or an event. Roman Vishniac's photograph of the young boy with his hands up in the Warsaw ghetto isone of those images. This poster is of the same caliber. Printed in several different languages, it is a montage showing the body of a little girl overlapping a picture of the bombers that killed her. It represents the horrors of the Spanish Civil War, and the crushing of Republican forces by Franco with the help of the Nazis. One of the strongest political posters ever designed. ref. The Poster by Alain Weill, p.280, no.486 reproduced full page.
