ARMISTEAD, WILSON
Calumny Refuted, by Facts from Liberia. Small 8vo, original lettered wrappers, stitched. Fine copy. London, 1848 FIRST EDITION. Scarce pamphlet by the author of A Tribute to the Negro. Armistead championed the rights of blacks and in this pamphlet he is refuting the assertion that blacks were incapable of self-government. Included in the volume are speeches by Liberian President Roberts, H. H. Garnett, Hilary Teague of the Liberian legislature, and a moving speech by an ex-slave. Hampton catalogue 999.
