BERENICE ABBOTT (1898-1991) Manhattan Skyline I, South Street and Jones Lane. March 26, 1936; printed 1980s.

BERENICE ABBOTT (1898-1991)
Manhattan Skyline I, South Street and Jones Lane. March 26, 1936; printed 1980s.
Silver print, the image measuring 15¼x19 3/8 inches (38.7x49.2 cm.), the mount 24x30 inches (61x76.2 cm.), with Abbott's block-lettered signature in pencil on mount recto, and her Abbott, Maine stamp on mount verso.

  • Condition: Abbott's photograph Manhattan Skyline I, South Street and Jones Lane, March 26, 1936; printed 1980s is in excellent condition. The tones of the print are rich and lush, with a wide range of dimensional values and compelling detail.

Under close examination in raking light, the surface of the print is flawless. As visible in the online catalogue, there are scattered tiny black specs in the sky in the upper left quadrant, but these are in the negative, not on the surface of the print.

The print has no margins and its edges are clean and neat.

The mount, both recto and verso, is bright and clean, with Abbott's block-lettered signature in pencil on mount recto, and her Abbott, Maine stamp on mount verso.

A fine oversized print of this powerful composition.
