Bahia, circa 1930 E800/1,200 Such scepters were used by Cantumble high priests of the African (Yoruba-derived) religion brought to Brazil by the African slave population. Yoruba rituals and craft practices appear almost untainted by Western religion and custom in the Bahia region.
