First edition, two large quarto volumes, Don Quixote translated from Spanish to English by Charles Jervas (circa 1675-1739), the biography translated by John Ozell (d. 1743); half-title present in first volume, illustrated frontispiece opposite biography and sixty-eight numbered full-page plates in the Quixote, (plate one bound as general frontispiece); the majority engraved by Gerard van der Gucht (1696-1776) after John Vanderbank (1694-1739); bound in full contemporary uniform red morocco tooled in gilt, with some rubbing and wear to joints; all edges gilt, marbled endleaves; ex libris J. White of Queens College, Cambridge, with armorial bookplate; and bookplate of U.S. District Attorney for Massachusetts, Asa P. French (1860-1935) inside front board; purchased at Christie's in 2011; 11 1/4 x 9 in.
