(CHILDREN'S BOOKS.) The New Picture Book.
(CHILDREN'S BOOKS.) The New Picture Book. Numerous wood engravings. 16 pages. 16mo, original illustrated wrappers, small hole on rear cover; faint early owner's pencil signature on title page. Syracuse, NY: L. [Lewis] Whittemore, Truair & Co, printers, ca. 1851?
- Notes: Describes the characters of the Dutch, Russians, Turks, and English, as well as "The Postboy," "The Gambler," and "The Drunkard," with illustrations of each, followed by "The Funeral." An unrecorded imprint by an obscure publisher. Whittemore published only a handful of titles in Amherst and Wendell, MA from 1823 to 1825, followed by a few more of indeterminate date in Syracuse. Whittemore and Truair & Co. both appear in the 1851 Syracuse directory. This work not listed in WorldCat, Rosenbach, or Shaw-Shoemaker.
