SCARCE FIRST PRINTING (CHILDREN'S LITERATURE.) Potter, Beatrix. The Tailor of Gloucester. Color frontispiece and 15 illustrations by Potter. 12mo, original pink boards printed in black on front cover, faint yellow spotting to covers, otherwise fine. London: Privately printed, 1902

one of 500 copies of the first edition. The Tale of Peter Rabbit, published the previous year, and The Tailor of Gloucester were first privately printed by Beatrix Potter. In this version of Tailor, the text is considerably longer than that of the first trade edition published by Warne in 1903 (see lot below). The cover contains a vignette illustration which was never used again. This title remained Potter's favorite among her work. Linder, p. 420. Morgan Library, Early Childrens Books, 221; Quinby 3.
