CIRO FERRI (ATTRIBUTED TO)

(Rome 1634-1689 Rome)
Moses and the Burning Bush.

Black chalk on cream laid paper. 188x241 mm; 7 1/2 x9 1/2 inches. Ex-collection unknown collector, red ink stamp with the letter G in a square verso (not in Lugt).

Numerous pentimenti for the putti supporting God the Father and also for the pose of Moses would indicate that this is an original composition rather than a copy. Traces of red chalk offsetting on the recto could link this sheet to a number of drawings which were made by Ferri to be engraved, notably for the Missal of Pope Alexander VII and others.
