  • Notes: The entire front page of the 14 July issue reports the breaking news of the riot. The 15 July issue reprints the inflammatory article from the Daily News (then a Copperhead organ) which had helped to spark the riots. Front-page coverage is also found in the 16, 17 and 18 July issues as the riot continued and wound down. with--New York Herald of 10 August 1863, in which President Lincoln refuses to suspend the draft in New York.
